Preserve the taste of the salt

The Christian life is one that is given by God. It has a heavenly quality and godly values. So our true Christian life should impart this heavenly quality and godly values to the people around us. Our Christian life should be able to give taste to the tasteless by decaying the earthly life of others. Jesus told to His disciple in Mathew 05:13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.” Here Jesus is encouraging every disciple by saying that they are the salt of the earth and by depending on God, every disciple has the potential to impart a heavenly taste to the earthly life around him. This is one of the main purpose of why God has placed His disciples in this world. Also, Jesus is giving a great warning to all the disciples of all time that there is every chance that they may lose the God given taste of the Christian life. If we lack the Christian taste then we will have no value. So we should be very careful and be in continuous dependence on God to maintain the taste of the Christian life.

To preserve the taste of the Christian life we should always live before God. He chose us to be holy and blameless before Him. Eph 01:04 “He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him”. If we know that God sees everything and live with fear of God all the time, it will guide and help us to live without losing the heavenly quality and godly values in our life.

“Every disciple has the potential to impart a heavenly taste to the earthly life around him.”

Many believers are living in front of men and are trying to justify themselves in the sight of men. This is the main reason the religious Pharisees missed their spiritual vision. Jesus told them in Luke 16:15 “And He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts; for that which is highly esteemed among men is detestable in the sight of God”. If anyone tries to keep a good image in front of men by ignoring his heart’s condition, then He will lose the Christian taste of his life.

The Christian life is a Christ centered life. The core part of this life is the devotion towards Christ. If we are led away from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ by any reason, then we will lose the taste of our Christian life. What Apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthians is well applicable for all believers of all time. 2 Cor 11:02-04 “02 For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy; for I betrothed you to one husband, so that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin.03 But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ. 04 For if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, you bear this beautifully.”

The Holy Spirit is giving a very strong warning about friendship towards the world. The world is a system where everything is self-centered. Any friendship with any self-centered system will led us away from God and God will become our enemy. For a believer this is adultery. James 4:04,05 ” 04 You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. 05 Or do you think that the Scripture speaks to no purpose: “He jealously desires the Spirit which He has made to dwell in us”?

Christ is the example for a Christian life. All believers have to follow Him so as to have His life on this earth itself. Eph 05:02 “and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.”

See the testimony of Paul about his Christian walk without losing the taste of Christian life. 2 Cor 02: 14-16 “14 But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place.15 For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing; 16 to the one an aroma from death to death, to the other an aroma from life to life. And who is adequate for these things?

May God help all us to preserve the taste of the Christian life without losing it.
